I'm currently transcribing an interview Jon Cooke has done with Joe Sinnott for an upcoming issue of COMIC BOOK CREATOR and Joe mentioned that this was his very first sale to Marvel under his own name. Not his first story for Marvel, though. Earlier he had been assisting and then ghosting Tom Gill, who had been his teacher at the Hogarth School.

K-9 V and His Sub Snatchers-1943
Here, boy! Stay! Look! More Good Dog Art!
Thanks to Jake Oster, who writes: For what it’s worth, the cartoonist on K-9-V is Russell Henderson (1890-1959). Those are his initials in the lower left hand corner of the last page (8).

Tentacles of Terror-Joe Kubert-1945
We haven't had any early Joe Kubert work here in a while. Let's fix that. Please ignore the WWII-era racist caricatures and just groove on Kubie's raw talent.

Fright Pattern-Syd Shores/Wayne Howard-1974
While retaining a definite Wallace Wood feel, this art isn't as slavish as former Woodworker Howard's solo stuff usually was. Here, he inks veteran Shores in one of his last stories. Shores had shared a studio with Wood around this time. "Jack Younger," according to Woodworker and all-around great guy Bhob Stewart, was a pen name used by Russ Jones for prose fiction but, in fact, by Bhob himself in a few black and white comics. This then, presumably, is written by the late Bhob Stewart.

This was the last story in the last issue of MAGIC AGENT, a short-lived ACG effort at tying on to both spies, magicians, and superheroes.

The Deacon and Mickey-Rudy Palais-1945
Rudy Palais is one of the great unsung Golden Age artists in comics. Witness the gorgeous splash panel above.

The Spell of Sinner Ella-Gray Morrow-1971
We all know the great Gray, of course, but who was/is writer Bill Dennehy? He's credited with a number of stories for DC's "mystery" titles in the early '70s but not much else, and apparently nothing past 1977.
UPDATE: Reader Jake Oster writes: According to Mike Tiefenbacher, in The Comic Reader # 142, Apr 1977, Bill Dennehy was a pen-name for editor Murray Boltinoff.
Thanks, Jake!
