Lee Elias is one of those artists who just kept seeming to get better and better but his style fell out of popularity and his later work was mostly confined to random one-shot stories like this.

Masked Raider-Pete Morisi-1960
I always wondered if the reason Morisi never did much--if any--work for the bigger publishers was because his work so resembled that of Marvel/DC stalwart George Tuska! Or vice-versa.

Winnie the Waitress-Vic Herman-1949
Winnie the Waitress was to Harvey Comics what Casey the Cop was to National or Kurtzman's Hay, Look! was to Timely. Filler. It could be dropped in to anything and, in fact, appeared in everything from newspaper reprint comics to superhero comics to romance comics.

Pardon the Interruption
We ended up with 4 feet of raw sewage in our basement at 2:30 AM on Sunday morning as flood waters rushed down our street like rapids. Been spending this week dealing with panic attacks, insurance companies, garbage, phone calls, and MORE torrential rains every day since! Today's the first day with no rain in more than a week but heavy storms are being called for this weekend!
We have had no AC, no laundry facilities, and no hot water. Professional cleaners came yesterday and the basement has been disinfected and is drying out today. Appliances will be evaluated later today, everything else tomorrow. If anything can be repaired, hopefully it will be done quickly. If things need to be replaced, this could take a while.
If anyone would care to contribute to our $1000 insurance deductible, PayPal donations can be made to booksteve@aol.com. Everything helps. Thanks.
Hoping to return to regular posts here if we survive this upcoming weekend.
Thanks for your patience. Please check back for new posts.

Phil and Bill-Art Helfant-1941
In today's Laurel and Hardy strip...well, not technically, but add a little mustache to the big fella and read the other guy's lines with an English accent and you have a close approximation.

Starr of Wonderland-1967
This young woman is basically the personal superhero of a Westworld-style fairy tale-related amusement park created by her father. Definitely a more original idea than most in '67!

He Who Laughs Last-Sid Greene-1953
My first thought on this one was Reed Crandall but GCD says it's Sid Greene and on closer inspection, I see it. See panel 5 on Page 3. Greene was usually an inker at DC later but his inking was very distinctive. This COULD be him inking someone else but in this period, an Atlas artist usually worked solo outside of possible corrections or production touchups.

Phantom Lady, Spider Widow, and the Raven-Frank Borth-1943
This early crossover story is part of a short series where Quality tried to make two superheroines go all Betty and Veronica over also ran superguy, the Raven. This proto-"mini-series" ran in both POLICE and FEATURE COMICS.
