The Atom-Jon Chester Kozlak-1947

To my thinking, THE ATOM is probably the single best example of a Golden Age hero who turned out much better in his Silver Age revival. It was so different, of course, that it was hardly even connected, let alone the same thing. Here's the original, Al Pratt!

Giggle Toons-Howard Post-1948

Here's yet more early work from Howie Post, a favorite around these parts since the sixties. Post is probably best-remembered for his signed work for DC such as ANTHRO but he also was the main artist on Harvey titles such as HOT STUFF and SPOOKY for a while.

Sparky Watts-Mickey Finn-1948

A Golden Age favorite around here, Sparky Watts appeared in BIG SHOT COMICS as well as in his own title for a brief period and in newspapers. Here we have a Superman parody featuring Sparky but from the unusual spot as a backup in MICKEY FINN, Mickey being another regular in BIG SHOT so it was cross-promotion. This does not appear to be by Sparky's creator, Boody Rogers.

Dippy Diplomat-Guy Blythe-1942

Some lovely design-oriented strips from JOKER COMICS credited to Guy Blythe. Bails lists only this title for the artist so I'm wondering if it's a pseudonym. Anyone know? The strip itself is a seeming imitation of THE LITTLE KING from early Marvel, already basing characters on more established ones.

Scribbly and the Red Tornado-Sheldon Mayer-1942

We had a request for this one and I'm not one to turn down a request for Sheldon Mayer! His SUGAR & SPIKE title was a great favorite of my younger self and his earlier work is just as good! Although Scribbly is baed on mayer, this special 4th wall-breaking installment features SM himself as well!

Lady Luck-Nick Cardy-1941

Pretty sure this holiday story of LADY LUCK--more often associated with Klaus Nordling--is by the recently deceased (in 2013) Nick Cardy, back when he was at the Eisner studio as Nicholas Viscardi.
