What was the fascination Westerns had with Dumas' Three Musketeers? I just last night watched a movie from the long-running "Three Mesquiteers" series and now this.

Cave Kids-1965
To the best of my knowledge, in spite of the Hanna-Barbera credit, CAVE KIDS never appeared anywhere but in the comics. Their appearances there were always quite enjoyable, though!

Amazona the Mighty Woman-1940
This one's been reprinted a number of times but here it is again. Here's a super-powered Amazon woman who pre-dates Wonder Woman.

Bob Steele, MD-George E. Brenner-1937
Here's another pre-Superman hero. This particular man of "Steele" shares a name with B movie cowboy Bob Steele and yet is in no way related. More like Flash Gordon combined with Dr. Kildare.

You Know Too Much-Dick Giordano-1954
Nothing much storywise but some nice early work from Dick Giordano here, showing what seem to be the influences of EC Comics artists, particularly Craig and Wood.

Baxter Bear-1958
Some cute and clearly Walt Kelly-inspired funny animal stuff here but I can't for the life of me identify the actual artist? It's from an issue of SUPER DUCK (# 76) that isn't completely indexed on GCD.

They Walk by NIght-William Payne-1973
I would have sworn this art, found in one of DC's "mystery" titles, was from one of the many Filipino artists who put new life into US comics in the 1970s. It is signed, however, by one William Payne, who, according to the Lambiek site DID do work on these titles...but was Canadian!

Tuffy and Mommy-Syd Hoff-1950
Syd Hoff would, in time, be remembered as a beloved children's book author and illustrator but in the beginning, he was a cartoonist, offering up this syndicated variant on LITTLE LULU, as here collected in a short-lived comic book in 1950.
