I've developed a real soft spot for these modern fairy tale kinds of comic book stories. Luckily, there's no shortage of them in the Golden Age. During the period that he did this story, artist Ferstadt was also running his own art Shop and is credited with giving Harvey Kurtzman some of his very first comics work. Born in the Ukraine, Ferstadt worked on many pro-US comics stories but also did a comic strip for the Daily Worker, the Communist newspaper!

Boy, was I surprised (and pleased) to see this blog pop up on my blogroll. I like the new header, too.
This piece is reminiscent ("reminiscent" in terms of my own personal timeline, that is) of George Carlson's work in Jingle Jangle Comics, with which I'm sure you're familiar.
The story is okay as a whole, but that splash panel is downright creepy. The combination of the crazed eyes, misshapen teeth, and those solid red cheeks make it look like a cartoon horror story.
