Here he is again--The Spirit of '76--emphasis on "THE SPIRIT." GCD says it's Bob Powell and Powell did do the previous episode we ran but I'm not so sure here. Looks almost like an unlikely combination of Jack Cole and Bill Everett but obviously that can't be it. Oh, as always, please note the historical context in which this is offered with all of its sterotypes.

Speaking of "Spirit," it doesn't quite seem like Eisner's work, but there are a lot of similarities--the comfort with giving the hero goofy expressions, the beautiful use of shadows and twirling wisps of gunpowder and cigarette smoke, even Spirit's mask recalls that of Eisner's Spirit.
Sort of a cross between the Spirit and the Fighting Yank.
