Miss Bikini Luv-Jon D'Agostino-1966

Best known as giving the great Batman artist Jim Aparo, many forget that Miss Bikini Luv was around even before Aparo, drawn here by Charlton's comedy workhorse, Jon D'Agostino, and written by the always inventive and amusing DJ Arneson who that same year created the legendary (infamous?) GREAT SOCIETY COMIC BOOK with Tony Tallarico.

Black Cat-Lee Elias-1950

I love stories where the medium of comic books interacts with the medium of radio. Here's one and it stars yet another great female character in this unofficial Women in Comics Week.

Betty Bates-Al Bryant-1940

Our unplanned "Women's Week" continues with Ms. Betty Bates, Lady at Law, with typical quality artwork from the well-named Quality Comics.

Dinah-Carl Hubbell-1953

Dinah here is the girlfriend of one Anchors Andrews (no relation to Archie) who had several well drawn issues from St. John in the 1950s. Veteran artist Hubbell is a bit Eisneresque here.

Captain Kangaroo-1956

Here's the early version of Bob Keeshan's original Captain Kangaroo, with his gigantic marsupial-like pockets, in a story done for even smaller kids than normal comic books.

A mildly amusing story at best but note at the bottom the ad that appeared in the middle of it. This isn't the first time I've seen this ad ina Charlton comic bit it is, I believe, the first time I've seen it in a funny animal story.

The Mummy or..."IBIS"-1976

Last year I wrote the Introduction to a book collecting old comic book stories about Mummies. I didn't know about this one, a MAD-style piece from the Tony Tallarico-edited QUASIMODO'S MONSTER MAGAZINE.
