Tippy Teen-Harry Lucey-1965

Here we have TIPPY, one of the more blatant female ARCHIE clones. Perhaps that's because her misadventures were published and edited by Archie vets Harry Shorten and Samm Schwartz with anonymous art by other Archie vets including Bob White, Dan DeCarlo and, as seen here, Harry Lucey (according to GCD). TIPPY TEEN was the most successful character to come out of Shorten's Tower Comics, best remembered for Wally Wood's T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS. It was so successful, in fact, that just a few years after the character's final issue in 1969, she was revived in reprints at Atlas Comics with bad printing and a name change to VICKI!

Just a note: the "Best of Archie Comics" collection reprinted the first story from the Archie comic "Ginger," and it turns out it's the exact same story as this one, with much of the same dialogue. Harry Shorten, who did some of his own writing at Archie, must have re-used some of his old scripts for Tippy. Today you couldn't get away with that without being sued.

Quality Comics also used this exact same storyline in their Candy comics (issue #42; "Chemical Formula") ..

Yes, a few years ago now I worked with Jack Mendelsohn on a project and he explained that he wrote for Tippy Teen and often reused old CANDY scripts he had written! He may have written the GINGER strip mentioned above, as well.
