Queen of the Dead World-Alden McWilliams-1981

Although we don't want to lose our focus on earlier material, there are some trie gems to be found in DC's code-approved "horror" comics of the 1970's and '80's. Here we have a fun little sci-fi tale from Alden McWilliams. Perhaps it's the similarity in names to legendary EC sci-fi artist Al Williamson but McWilliams, himself one of THE best sci-fi comics artists, often gets overlooked when one discusses these sorts of things.

One of my favorite comics artists. McWilliams was a fantastic talent whose long career started in the early forties. He did it all: comic books, daily strips, painting, always with a keen eye for character and place.

I've always entertained this odd notion that McWilliams never got the fan respect Williamson did because his heroes lacked that extra "rugged handsome" Alex Raymond look. McW's draughtsmanship was easily the equal of Williamson's, but his men looked a bit ordinary. Not his women, though. "Twin Earths" launched a line of knockout McWilliams ladies who deserve a gallery of their own.
