Cab Calloway-Jerry Fasano-1948

From Betty Boop and Minnie the Moocher to THE BLUES BROTHERS and beyond, Cab Calloway was a unique performer in American music for more than half a century. Here's a cute little tale of Cab and his jive talk from JUKE BOX COMICS illustrated by Jerry Fasano, perhaps best known for his PSAs in comic books!

When I was in junior high in the early 1960s, Cab Calloway and his band appeared in a "school assembly." I guess there was a sort of circuit, like vaudeville, which sent both educational shows and (has-been?) musical acts to schools around the country.

None of us had any idea who Cab Calloway was, but his music and showmanship knocked me out. A couple of years later, when I saw some of the Calloway Boops on TV, my love for Cab was cemented. I feel very lucky to have seen him perform.
