Some nice art from Alice Kirkpatrick, mainly a romance artist in the late forties and early fifties, keeps this story from being the static-y talkfest it could easily have been. But seriously..."Mister MALICE??"

I don't know what the figure would have been in '49, but there are presently scores of people in the United States with the surname “Malice”.

I think he means it was a pretty transparent choice of an alias if you are plotting revenge. You might not want to drop such a big clue.
