The Atom-Jon Chester Kozlak-1947

To my thinking, THE ATOM is probably the single best example of a Golden Age hero who turned out much better in his Silver Age revival. It was so different, of course, that it was hardly even connected, let alone the same thing. Here's the original, Al Pratt!

Yet another story for readers to fantasize that their problems with dames are caused by their magnificence, rather than because they are … schlubs.

Are you kidding? the Silver age Atom was good. What's wrong with him? He was better than this guy. Not really. I like them both. They are products of very different times. I know the Sliver age Atom would up sharing a title with Hawkman. He fizzled out. But the first couple of years were good.

I b'leeb that you've misread Steve's assertion. He said “better in”, not “better than”. (Steve writes as if the relationship between Atoms is analogous to the relationship between Supermen [“Supermans”?] or to that between the Batmen. I think that it's much weaker than that.)

Clearly the Silver Age ATOM--an early favorite of mine--was more inspired by THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN and Quality's DOLL MAN than he was his namesake predecessor. Throw in the name copying from sci-fi editor/writer Ray Palmer and mores than any other "revival," it was a whole new character.
