Ozzie and Harriet-Owen Fitzgerald-1949

David Nelson died this week at age 74. At age 12, though, in 1949, he became a comic book character. On Ozzie and Harriet Nelson's popular radio series of the day, the couple played themselves but their sons David and Ricky were initially played by actors. By the time the series moved to TV, the boys had begun to play themselves and literally grew up in America's living rooms. As a National comic book character of the day, David and his family shared the stands with the company's BATMAN comic book. In 1966, then in its final season, THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE AND HARRIET was moved from its long time Wednesday evening home to Saturdays...to make room for BATMAN.
