El Carim, Master of Magic-1942

A lovely but uncredited splash here, that all but defines the popular comics-collecting phrase, "Good Pachyderm Art." Interesting, also that the "Master" of Magic appeared in MASTER COMICS!

It almost looks like the uncredited artist was wearing his Eisner hat here and there to me.

Yeah, or maybe his Lou Fine derby? I thought maybe this was a Quality comic book until I checked and saw it was a Fawcett. The professor kind of looks proto-Ditko to me, though.

I really like the bad guy's mask. It's so realistic it looks surreal in context. But COME ON! The hero can turn anything into anything and you think you going to stop him with a knife!

By the way, I heard it killed Wertham when his publishers cut the elephant chapter: 'The other stuff is candy. This is the cocaine!'
