King Kegler-Bob Powell-1950

I don't bowl. Never have. Is bowling still that popular? I know all the bowling lanes that used to dot this area are long gone. At one time, though, bowling was a major pastime for Americans and even quite popular on TV. Still, it's the always enjoyable art of the great Bob Powell that makes this short piece on one of the great bowlers (whom I had never heard of before) interesting. For more info on the subject of this story who lived until age 93, go here.

Not only are there ever fewer bowling lanes but those who go to the lanes that remain tend to go by themselves, or with only a friend or two. Bowling leagues are disappearing faster than bowling itself. Leagues recruited new bowlers, so their disappearance accelerates the decline.
