Combat Cool-John Severin-1966

\

The great John Severin, still drawing comics today after more than six decades in the business, rarely toiled at DC but when he did, as much as readers might have loved to have seen him on Green Lantern or Hawkman, he not surprisingly drew war comics. Here's a back-up from a mid-sixties issue of the short-lived CAPTAIN STORM that somehow manages to have that DC clean house style while still recognizably Severin.

I'm probably crazy, but this looks to me like it was pencilled by someone other then Severin. In fact parts of it look a lot like Russ Heath. I know--I'm seeing things.

Smurfswacker, it just may not look like what you expect to see in Severin's art in 1966, because it's reprinted from eight years earlier (Our Army at War 70). Severin might have been trying to emulate Heath to conform more to the house style Booksteve mentions, as he'd just come to DC in 1958.
