Bewitched-Henry Scarpelli-1967

Here's another long one but it seemed a likely choice as it features our old friends Darrin and Samantha time traveling the the far off 21st Century (ahem) and getting involved with a potential dictator running for office. Seemed surprisingly timely. Obviously some photo reference was used here but it seems more successful on Darrin than on Samantha...sadly. Oh! The Batmobile makes a sort of cameo as well!

Northwest Mounties-L.B. Cole-1948

Here we are 25 years before the New X-Men with a Wolverine prototype! Well, not really, but a straightforward, almost radio-like, well drawn tale of the Mounties always getting their man.

Vinny the Vet-Tony Di Preta-1960

Here's another episode of VINNY THE VET, this one signed by veteran artist Tony Di Preta although still drawn in the Mort Walker style. Di Preta was known to have assisted on BEETLE BAILEY at some point but was better known for 25 years drawing JOE PALOOKA and then moving on to REX MORGAN, MD.

Pappy Boyington-It Really Happened-1947

Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was a real war hero, a colorful, controversial, and successful pilot even though he sat out the 20 months of WWII in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Later on, he became a fictional character, too, recreating his role as leader of the BLACK SHEEP SQUADRON and played on TV by Robert Conrad. 

Gale Allen and the Girl Squadron-Art Saaf (?)-1941

More like Gale Allen WITHOUT the Girl Squadron! What we do get, though, is a short and snappy heroic fantasy story in the classic ERB/pulp mode, with some nice early art from--if GCD is correct--Art Saaf, who would still be drawing for comics three decades later at DC.

Fess and Bess-Super Duck-1958

A couple of one page fillers from Archie's SUPER DUCK. No idea who did them or even if this strip was ever seen again but I thought they were kind of clever and I enjoyed the art style.
