It's 1953 and the company that invented 3-D comics parodies them with NO Dimension Comics! Substituting for the original's Mighty Mouse we have Mighty Moose! Some lovely, funny art here from Carl Hubbell, perhaps best remembered today for Myron Fass's infamous sixties version of Captain Marvel. "SPLIT!!"

Doc Savage-Bob Powell-1948
The prolific Bob Powell is known for his work on THE SHADOW in the Golden Age but he also had his take on the Man of Bronze himself, DOC SAVAGE, here in a then-timely story dealing with peoples' fears and misunderstandings of the early concepts of television.

Inferior Man-Al Jaffee-1942
As far as historical political incorrectness, this one's pretty bad. But stop being offended for just a second, put it all in proper perspective and enjoy some very early art from the legendary, still with us here in 2012 and still winning awards all over the place, Al Jaffee! No folding necessary.
"Tarzan" Johnny Weissmuller-4Most Boys-195?
The GCD listing for this title seems all screwed up as far as covers so I don't know how much stock to put in their dates either. They say this is 1958. DCM dates it to 1950 which seems more likely since there's no Comics Code on the cover. Not a particularly well-written or drawn bio of the best known Tarzan actor but an interesting (if unrealistic) look at that character and the actor from a unique perspective.

Green Lantern-Irwin Hasen-1947
My absolute favorite Golden Age series has long been GREEN LANTERN and one of the reasons has been that the quality of that strip's art was nearly always top-notch. During the later run, that art was usually by Irwin Hasen who turns 94 today! Here's GL and the Harlequin from late in 1947. By this point, she was more a co-star than an antagonist. That would soon change, however, as she was replaced by Streak the Wonder Dog!
Wilbur-Bill Vigoda-1947
Here we have Wilbur Wilken...sort of the Earth 2 Archie even though both debuted at the same time and both continued on side by side for two decades until the early sixties when Wilbur finally had to admit defeat. He was sort of revived just a few years later on as Bingo Wilkin, aka THAT WILKIN BOY. Art here is by Abe Vigoda's brother Bill, an Archie mainstay perhaps best known for his work on the Riverdale superhero tales of the sixties.

Mr. Mystic-Fred Guardineer-1944
Anyone who knows anything about this sort of thing knows that Bob Powell drew MR. MYSTIC, one of the back-up strips in Will Eisner's SPIRIT SECTION. Only...not always. Here's our hero by Fred Guardineer, remembered more for his long-time association with DC's own mystic man, ZATARA THE MAGICIAN.
