One of my favorite Alan Moore one-offs in 2000 AD from the 1980s is a story about a man who meets himself from the future but eventually decides he doesn't want to be that person. This 1956 US story, while not the same, is so close in many ways--and oft-reprinted in the UK according to GCD--that I wouldn't be surprised if Moore had been influenced subconsciously or otherwise.
