Woozy-Jack Cole/Alex Kotzky (?) -1952/55

Woozy Winks was Plastic Man's long-running sidekick, popular enough to have his own back up series for years. GCD says Alex Kotzky with a question mark but some of those faces sure look like Cole's to me. Since this is a 1955 reprint of a 1952 story and Cole was still doing the main strip at that point, it's possible.

The faces certainly do look like Cole. Could have been a "combo"
production between Cole & Kotzky. Also, Quality had a very definite (excellent) House Style, that was reinforced by their inkers.

Either way, it's FUN.

Not only some of the faces, but some of the posing looks like Cole's work. On the other hand, the splash panel and the over-all structure of the pages is fairly ordinary. It's as if Cole joined the process after it were begun, and left before it were finished.

Maybe Kotzky just copied Cole faces onto his characters the way everyone (except Schaffenberger) copied Captain Marvel Jr figures by Mac Raboy in THAT character's later stories.

Well, Cole obviously lettered it (see the diminishing Rs in "Darrrling") and at a glance I'd say he wrote it ("Zoiks!"), so I think your first guess was right on the money, Steven--he drew it.

BTW, note Mitzi's suit in 2:1, 2:4, and 3:2.
