Capt. Battle-Jack Binder-1941

Jack Binder was, as one might surmise, the brother of prolific writers Otto and Earl (Eando) Binder. Otto moved into comics as the major force behind Capt. Marvel and Jack worked for many companies on many types of characters, so many that he had to come up with a studio to help him keep up.

The Hunter Who Became the Hunted-Lou Cameron-1952

With big game hunters in the news recently--and not in the positive light in which they once basked--here's a story of one such gentleman getting his comeuppance.

Susie Q. Smith-Jerry and Linda Walter-1952

Susie Q Smith was a female Archie type who had her own panel, her own strip and her own occasional comic book. Although comic book versions of popular strips were generally done by assistants, this one was supposedly being done by the actual strip creators, husband and wife Jerry and Linda Walter.

Blackhawk-John Forte/Chuck Cuidera-1950

One of the last Blackhawk stories in MODERN COMICS, which succeeded MILITARY COMICS, where the feature first appeared a decade earlier, this particular adventure is a bit of a harbinger of things to come as the original Magnificent Seven have an adventure...in SPAAAAACE! Nick Caputo ID's future Legion of Super-Heroes artist Forte as the artist here and that looks about right to me with all the space stuff. Cuidera was, of course, the default inker on BLACKHAWK for much of its entire original run at both Quality and DC. In later years, he even claimed to have created the character.

Cave Man Curly-Joseph Sulman-1947

Sort of V.T. Hamlin meets Al Capp. Sulman did quite a bit of work for DC beginning in the 1930s but pretty much stayed under the radar.

Hector the Henpecked Rooster-Rube Grossman-1945

As far as I know there never was a Hector cartoon series in spite of that copyright to Famous Studios. Still, some minor cartoonish fun to be had here from ex-animator Grossman, probably best known for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer from DC.
