Dr. Hormone-Ralph Carlson-1940

By popular demand, here's more of the recent DR. HORMONE story that we ran. This one has the Klan, dinosaurs, the pyramids, a parachuting granddaughter and a mysterious voice. What it apparently does NOT have...is a conclusion. As near as I can tell, this was the final "episode" of this wacky series!

Kandi the Cave Kid-Walt Kelly-1942

More pre-POGO fun from the one and only, wonderful Walt Kelly. Kelly turned up frequently in animation related comics featuring characters from MGM, Disney and, as here, Warner Brothers.

Moon Girl and the Prince-Sheldon Moldoff-1949

Charlie Gaines was dead by this point and his son Bill had turned Educational Comics into Entertaining Comics. According to legend (and to Moldoff) it was Moldoff who suggested the concept of horror comic books to Gaines. This would seem to be an early attempt at horror, mixed with EC's only superhero series.

Don Glory, Champion of Democracy-Nick Cardy-1940

This two-fisted Amuhr-kin fighter decides to take on the enemies of democracy personally, mano a mano! Today, he'd look like an egotistical right-wing extremist but in the pre-war days of late 1940, he was a REAL MAN, baby!

Lariat Law-Creig Flessel-1937

About the only way to really imagine what comic books might have been like if Superman hadn't revolutionized the industry in 1938 is to look at what PRE-Superman comics were featuring. Let's just say there were an awful lot of cowboys!

Neighbors-Wonderland-1945

THE FOX AND THE CROW began in animated cartoons in 1941 and graduated to their own co,mic book series in REAL SCREEN COMICS in 1945, followed by their own long-running title in 1952.

THIS, however, from Wonderland Comics in 1945, is NOT the Fox and the Crow. Oh, it's A fox and crow...just not THE Fox and Crow.
