Super Goof-Paul Murry-1965, 1966

As a kid, the only Disney comics I ever really liked were SUPER GOOF comics, probably because of the superhero connection. The artist, whom I later learned was Paul Murry, also became my favorite Mickey Mouse artist. The stories were often long and involved as the best Disney comics sometimes were but there were also inside cover one-pagers that were fun. Here are a few early ones.

Astron, Crocodile Queen-1943

No real info on this one at all but it's an interesting read with some interesting artwork. Enjoy!

The Avenger-Bob Powell-1955

This fellow would have fit in perfectly with the early Silver Age superheroes but he had unfortunate timing. His full run appeared between the end of the Golden Age and the beginning of the Silver. Also, his company didn't last, becoming a victim of the Comics Code purge.

Cross-eyed Pussycat-Henry Scarpelli-1970

I can't help but wonder if these filler pages from BINKY'S BUDDIES might not have been leftovers from a newspaper strip that didn't sell. They're very much in that era's "modern" style of syndicated strip and pretty funny!

The Terror-Syd Shores-1940

Syd Shores probably drew Captain America more than even Kirby in the forties and then returned to ink Jack on Cap in the 1960s! Here's an early hero by Syd.

Gigi-Joe Edwards-1980

Joe Edwards spent decades chronicling the misadventures of LI'L Jinx but on occasion, he did branch out a little...although he never got far from his bread and butter.

Millie the Model-Dan DeCarlo-1957

Here we see everybody's favorite fashion model making a TV appearance with--of all people--Edward R. Murrow, in a parody of his 1950s celebrity interview show, PERSON TO PERSON.
