PLASTIC MAN by Jack Cole was the proverbial lightning in a bottle. No one since, no matter how well-intentioned, has managed to completely recapture the perfection of a Cole Plas story. As superhero series go, there are many more creative hits here than misses and many more stories that hold up still, even without a nostalgia factor. Everyone sees it and there have been some valiant and massively entertaining and fun efforts, but PLASTIC MAN by his creator was simply a one of a kind comic.

Dotty Dripple and Taffy-Four Color-1956
DOTTY DRIPPLE was a long-running newspaper strip in the BLONDIE mode. It was popular enough that in the fifties, it actually appeared in comic book form from no less than three different publishers! This particular story was from the Dell run that spotlighted the family's teenage daughter, Taffy. The strip itself lasted from 1944 until 1974.

The Flash-Carmine Infantino-1948
I've tried to clean up this fiche scan and make it more legible. Some really nice Golden Age art on one of my favorite Golden Age characters by the artist most associated with the character's Silver Age namesake. This is one of the last FLASH stories of the original run.

Frankenstein-Dick Briefer-1945
Was looking through my copy of Craig Yoe's book, DICK BRIEFER'S FRANKENSTEIN (available through Amazon) and decided it was October, time for more Funny Frank here, too. This one, rather obviously, is a parody of that super guy from that other company.

Dexter-Junie Prom-1947
This is not Showtime's DEXTER. This is yet another ARCHIE clone, this one by an anonymous illustrator making one appreciate the marvelous early ARCHIE art by Montana, Vigoda, Sahle, et al all the more.
