Fright Pattern-Syd Shores/Wayne Howard-1974

While retaining a definite Wallace Wood feel, this art isn't as slavish as former Woodworker Howard's solo stuff usually was. Here, he inks veteran Shores in one of his last stories. Shores had shared a studio with Wood around this time. "Jack Younger," according to Woodworker and all-around great guy Bhob Stewart, was a pen name used by Russ Jones for prose fiction but, in fact, by Bhob himself in a few black and white comics. This then, presumably, is written by the late Bhob Stewart.

Syd Shores' early work for Timely always seemed nondescript to me, but I LOVE his late inking-- particularly of Kirby-- and his handful of solo Western and ghost stories at Marvel in the early Bronze Age. This one's new to me, and a good inking job by Howard. Not Shores, of course, but not bad!
