Clyde Crashcup-John Stanley/Irving Tripp-1964

One of the funniest animated TV cartoons ever became one of the funniest comic book adaptations of a TV cartoon, too, in the hands of the folks behind LITTLE LULU. Sometimes I wonder if Clyde and Leonardo inspired Penn and Teller's act.

Quite enjoyable.

Its somewhat jarring to see the angular and stylized Clyde and Leonardo amongst the typical stock character designs of Little Lulu. However, it does provide for a "don't fit in / fish out of water" context that fits these two perfectly.

I myself have long pondered if The Amazing Gustav Brothers from The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley weren't a homage to the fondly remembered duo.

Clyde and Leonardo could be considered pre comedy scientists such as Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker, or Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank.
