Here, from the new Craig Yoe volume, THE CARL BARKS BIG BOOK OF BARNEY BEAR, debuting this weekend at San Diego, is a sample story of the MGM characters from the so-called "Good Duck Artist." Unca Carl did the same thing with Barney as he did with Donald by making him a much better and more enjoyable character in print than he ever was on film.

Loved the part about the color-blind bull. Too bad the story's colorist didn't read the text, though.
I always thought it was a nice touch that a man named "Barks" was best known for "funny animal" stories. Kinda like how Marv Wolfman did so many great supernatural tales, eh?
I've had a really crappy day, and see a Carl Barks comic on my feed really brightened it. Thanks for posting this man!
(I'm going to be a picky asshole for a brief note, just because I looked this comic up. It was published in 1945. It was in Our Gang #15, Our Gang began publishing in 1942. Still awesome stuff, I love this blog!)
