The Banshee-Dennis O'Casey-1941

I remember learning the meaning of the word "banshee" when the X-MEN villain (and later member) was introduced. 25 years earlier, kids were encountering the word from this guy!

Bush Boy-Andy Tew-1970

Some nicely drawn jungle boy comics that rip off Tarzan, "Boy," and Bomba. This strip ran weekly for a couple of years, starting here.

Stingaree-Gray Morrow-1979

Some absolutely lovely color art from the great Gray on this reworked gender-switched version of his aborted 1970s revision of Archie/MLJ's Black Hood character.

The Graduate-Laugh In-1968

Not sure of the artist here but some of the stock LAUGH-IN characters appear, lampooning the mega-popular movie, THE GRADUATE in an underground comix style strip. This is from the tie-in LAUGH-IN magazine put out by the publisher of TIGER BEAT.

Sheriff Sal-King Ward-1948

Another artist new to me, looks like journeyman illustrator King Ward worked initially through the Sangor Studio and provided art for all sorts of short features for various companies. 

Cheyenne Kid-John Severin-1960

Artist John Severin was already a "name" at Prize Comics when he went to EC for a contentious stay in Harvey Kurtzman's stable. After the Code came in, he settled for long stays with both CRACKED and Atlas/Marvel but he also turned up regularly at Charlton for a whole, too! Film buffs will recognize Laurel and Hardy's sometime nemesis James Finlayson as the Big Bad. Years later, at DC, Jack Kirby would also base a character explicitly on Fin!

Perhaps the closest we'll see of longtime DC mainstay Ruben Moreira doing almost a superhero story.
