Betty and Veronica-Bill Woggon-1947

Sometimes the early Betty and Veronica stories could veer really off-model. Remember that these leggy creatures are supposed to be 16 years old.

Peter Pester-Hy Mankin-1952

This artist was interesting. Started out as an inker on Superman, later inked Bugs Bunny newspaper strips and drew Roy Rogers stories. Later on, he worked on Jonny Quest for television. Some pretty impressive art here when it's not almost covered by typically verbose Lev Gleason comics dialogue.

Magilla Gorilla-Ray Dirgo-1970

It's hard not to read Hanna Barbera comics in the voices of the actors who played the characters. In the case of supporting actors, I tend to hear other voice actors of the day as I read!

King of Darkness-Harry Francis Campbell-1941

At long last, for the first time in more than two years, here's another story of this guy, one of the most original of the early superheroes.

Zero, Ghost Detective-Al Bryant-1941

Some pretty heady stuff for this early in the game.

The Wolf Boy of Krakow-Gerald McCann-1952

Six years ago we posted a story by Herald McCann, an artist whose work resembles (but predates) prime Williamson, Torres, Gray Morrow, and even Doug Wildey. An influence perhaps? Here's another McCann tale.
