Page 13-Sergio Aragones-1968-69

I truly hated it when the DIAL H FOR HERO strip was replaced with bland 1950s "mystery" stories when I was a kid but one fun new part was the Sergio cartoons that took over the unlucky Page 13 for much of the title's first year of its new incarnation.

They Wait Below-Bernie Krigstein-1956

Sometimes Bernard Krigstein drew comics like other artists but it was when he didn't that gets him remembered today. Here we see him at Atlas experimenting with panel size, shape and quantity per page in much the same style of his best work at EC.

Bob Hope-Sam Glankoff-1947

Here's yet another example of Ol' Ski-nose appearing in comics before his long-running DC title began. While this amounts to nothing more than a 3 page plug for the movie MY FAVORITE BRUNETTE, Bob was actually cover featured on the issue of CALLING ALL BOYS this was in.

Where the Dinosaurs Roam-Bob Powell-1956

Here we have a few more Bob Powell dinosaurs. This one's a fairly close rip-off of the oft-adapted and oft-ripped off Ray Bradbury classic, "A Sound of Thunder." The ending's different and a few of teh details are changed but the concept and the gist of it are all a little too similar.

Red Hawk-Bob Powell-1954

The heck with Cowboys and Aliens, here we have Indians and dinosaurs! How cool is that? And with peak Bob Powell artwork!

Ban and Joe-Western Hero-1950

Not only is this mismatched duo's name a comedy team type name, this entire story is a four page Vaudeville or Burlesque routine! No idea who the perpetrators are on this one.

The Man Who Hated His Hair-George Roussos-1957

I'm on record as being a big fan of artist Roussos and yet very much NOT a fan of inker Roussos at Marvel in the sixties. By this point in '57, his art style was seeming a but more generic to me. Love that splash panel, though. The real reason I chose this story is that I just shaved my head again.
