Edgar Bergen was the most successful ventriloquist ever on radio. Of course, the question is, "How can a ventriloquist be successful on radio?" Well, in Bergen's case it was his genius for characters and his comic delivery. Also, you could see his lips move so he wasn't really that good when he WASN'T on radio! :)
