I didn't use to like Matt Fox's comics work but over time I've become more and more intrigued by just how out of place it seemed in the early days of the so-called Marvel Age of Comics. Fox was an old-time pulp artist, and a good one, but his old-fashioned, stiff, illustrative style just didn't work anymore in comics.

I like this stuff.
I can understand Larry Lieber's disapproval of Matt Fox inking his work, but I think he's wrong. Not with this story, actually, but some Lieber/Fox art jobs look pretty similar to Basil Wolverton (though, unfortunately, not as far as the writing goes). The combination can also seem like a precursor to Dan Clowes (drawing style-wise, obviously not story subject-wise).
