Zippo-Clue Comics-1944

In a way, the early Iron Man stories were reminiscent of Zippo in the way that Shellhead would pop skates out of his metal boots and go zipping down the road.

  1. Wow. All this time, I've never heard of ol' Zippo before. As much as he lends himself to too-cool-for-school elitists, I found his streamlined costume and it's abilities kind of unique for the period. One feels for the Goblin; he's basically just an unattractive guy that everyone is insensitive towards. I've got to look into CLUE Comics; did Hillman publish those? Good artwork and storytelling here compared to other Golden Age material.

  2. It's essentially the same costume so many wore in that day with different accessories. Think of DC's Tarantula and Sandman, MLJ's The Black Hood, Holyoak's the Hood, probably others.
