Yank and Doodle and the Black Owl-Fred Guardineer-1946

Why, here's some more Guardineer already! The guy was so prolific you practically tripped over his stuff back then. This particular PRIZE COMICS staple was essentially, "What if Batman had two Robins?"

  1. Frankly, I was so disappointed in Pee Wee Herman for his participation in the embezzlement that I didn't feel at all sorry to see him shot!

Thank heavens, BTW, that Tom Cadis was too stupid to put one and two together and get three! (Of course, if he had been, then I s'pose that the embezzlement would have been caught that much sooner.)

  2. I found it very trippy that Black Owl and Yank & Doodle were completely unrelated features--aside from a single book-wide team-up against Dick Briefer's Frankenstein--until (according to Wikipedia) the original Black Owl went off to fight in WWII and left his shtick to Y&D's dad.

Wait...Black Owl wore a false mustache in his civilian identity? That's some dedication!

"Gosh, I'm so excited, I'm going to drink some of my own orange juice!" Oh, Lord, please tell me that's not some sort of euphemism .

  3. They changed his head gear from the Original. It may be to make him more like Batman. He's not just a Batman wanna be he's a black owl wanna be. the first Black Owl was an "Owl" wanna be (copy after Dell's Owl).
