Jackie Gleason was popular enough that he had comic books from three different publishers in the fifties and the eighties. This story has charming art from an unnamed artist and features one of The Great One's other well-known characters besides Ralph Kramden.
The artists are Mike Roy and Mike Peppe, who were credited on the first stories (the Honeymooners) in the St. John issues I've seen. Reportedly Jackie Gleason's production company acted as a studio and supplied the finished material to the publisher; so Roy and Peppe continued as artists when DC got the title.
ReplyDeleteMartin, thank you for identifying the artists. I don't recognize their names, but the art in this is very distinctive and effective. As I read the story, all I could imagine was Al Wiseman and Alex Toth working together.
