The Inspector-1976

The Inspector is, of course, a cartoon (and comic book) realization of Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau but I have always felt he achieved a comedic life of his own, distanced from his source material.

Sargon the Sorcerer-Joe Kubert-1945

As superhero popularity faded, National attempted to prop up many of its heroes by introducing goofy sidekicks. Sargon's was one Maximillian O'Leary, a leftover type from Vaudeville, Burlesque,  and old newspaper strips, whose initial appearance is seen here.

Oscar-Harry Sahle-1944

Hot Dog came along with the debut of Archie's TV series but there were several other dogs that appeared in the Archie stories through the years, most notably Oscar here, who even got his own logo.

The Green Falcon-Roland Patenaude-1941

Long before the Blue Falcon or even the just plain Falcon, there was the Green Falcon. Robin Hood anyone?

9TH ANNIVERSARY REQUEST: Math Man-Steven Thompson-1977

Believe it or not, someone requested a story by ME! This is basically the only one I ever finished. I did it when I was 18 and published it on my man blog one page at a time a dozen years ago. I dunno. I think it shows some unpolished talent. Perhaps if I had drawn it with a pencil rather than a ballpoint it would look better. The coloring comes from a half-hearted attempt at computer color on Windows XP.

This was the first and last of the Numerical Wonder's adventures. Too bad. Think of the title possibilities!

"When Whole Numbers Clash!"
"The Never-Ending Menace of PI!"
"His Name is...Protractor!"

9TH ANNIVERSARY REQUEST: The Monkees-Jose Delbo-1968

Okay cats and kittens, this next request is for the fab Monkees! Peter, Mike, Micky, and Davy! Their long running comic's regular artist was the great, unsung Jose Delbo who, the same year this was made, was also drawing the psychedelic Beatles for the YELLOW SUBMARINE adaptation. So enjoy today's number and remember, keeeEEEP LISTEN'N!

9TH ANNIVERSARY POST-The Ravens of Doom-Luis Dominguez-1968

Today's anniversary request is yet another tale drawn by Luis Dominguez, this one historically based and quite well-drawn, although those square-ish word balloons always freak me out for some reason. Believe it or NOT!
