Bill Ward's TORCHY has always been a cult favorite but I've always preferred Gill Fox's myself. In fact, I believe Fox did the strip much more than Ward!

Here's a strip from the big Katy Keene revival in the '80s that is almost remarkably pointless. It isn't funny, it isn't particularly fashion-conscious, it has oddly UN-Katy like art by two men notorious for their comics art shortcuts and what's with that creepy panel in the middle of the last page???

Here's a silly, wordy little 2 page black and white tribute to EC's sci-fi stories by the one and only Tom Sutton, who would have been right at home at both WEIRD SCIENCE and MAD had he been born a few years earlier.

Roger Armstrong was a prolific cartoonist known mainly for his work on Warners, Disney, and Hanna-Barbera properties for Gold Key and in newspaper strips for many years.

Boy Commandos-Curt Swan-1947

Like BLACKHAWK and other strips designed specifically for World War II, Simon and Kirby's BOY COMMANDOS took some odd turns in the post-war years. Here we see Rip Carter and his battle-scarred kids as French Musketeers, with early art from future Superman artist Curt Swan doing a credible S&K imitation. 

Sir Galant of the Round Table-1957

Here we have a smooth, familiar art style that I can't quite place? Joe Certa? Dan Barry? Frak Bolle? I seem to see traces of all three of these guys but perhaps it isn't one of them at all? Experts? What say you?

Lil Chick-A-Dee-Sheldon Mayer-1950

More of the genius of Sheldon Mayer is showcased here in this nearly silent strip and its amazing cartoon visuals. Mayer's role in the history of comics is well-documented but as a cartoonist in his own right, he remains unsung except as a cult figure.
