And the Winner is...

Our winner here turned out to be Peter M. Mal of New Jersey. Congratulations, Peter!

Be sure to check the other participating sites below to see who won there. If you weren't one of the five lucky winners, we hope you'll hit up Amazon or your local comic shop for one or more of these fun, grisly volumes! Thanks to all for participating. Please check back often for more horror comics as well as more cool comics of all sorts that you've probably never seen before!

Thanks to my fellow bloggers Ger and Steve, Craig and Clizia from Yoe Books and Rosalind, Mike and Dirk at IDW! Let's do it again sometime!

Dynamo-Dick Briefer-1940

For the many amongst you who chose Dick Briefer as your favorite horror artist in our poll, here's some more of his work, this time PRE-Frankenstein! This clunky but appealing superhero strip appeared in SCIENCE COMICS in early 1940.

Cool Cat-Porky Pig-1971

Okay, put down your pens. The contest is OVER! Winners will be announced on Halloween! After two weeks of horror, here's something a tad lighter, Warner Brothers cartoon star COOL CAT. What's that? You don't remember Cool Cat? He premiered in 1967, the first new WB character in some time. Clearly based on the Pink Panther (with perhaps a hint of HB's Snagglepuss), his beatnik patter was already dated when he started and was positively OUT-dated by the time the company got out of the cartoon business for good (temporarily as it turned out) in '69.

The real question is why he was getting his own comic book stories as late as 1971 when THIS one appeared!

Yoe Books Presents: Elixir of Evil-Lee Elias-1952

We end our little journey into fifties pre-code horror with a story from Lee Elias. Best known for his Caniff-inspired illustrations, Elias worked mainly for Harvey and DC, landing at Marvel in later years. He became a teacher at the Joe Kubert School and contributed some truly impressive work to Warren toward the end of his career.

Last chance today to register for the 5 book giveaway sponsored by Yoe Books and IDW! Winners will be chosen at midnight tonight and announced after all 5 participating blogs have coordinated their choices to ensure that the same person doesn't win more than once.

We thank everyone for the entries! And there have been a LOT of entries here. Remember, you can enter once at each participating location and 5 sets will be given away of the hardcover volumes in the Chilling Archives of Horror! But ONLY up until Midnight tonight!

Yoe Books Presents: City of the Living Dead-Alvin Hollingsworth-1952

One of my personal favorite fifties artists--and I know one of Craig's a swell--is A.C. Hollingsworth. Not sure if he had enough horror stories to justify a full volume though but the ones he had were well-drawn and creeeeepy!

This story is also featured in the hardcover collection ZOMBIES! which you can WIN free as part of the 5 Chilling Archives of Horror collections being given away in conjunction with IDW and Yoe Books! Email us at booksteve@aol.com and tell us YOUR favorite horror artist! Then go to the other sites below and enter again for 5 total chances to win the full set! Yoe Books Presents: Flame Thrower-Jon D'Agostino-1953

Here's an example of the type of pre-code horror you'll find in every issue of HAUNTED HORROR, the regular comic book reprinting those grisly non-EC tales from the fiendish fifties. Artist Jon D-Agostino went on to work for Charlton and later became a mainstay at Archie Comics.

Still a few days to enter our great contest!
